This painting happened because I was mad about a lot of sh*t. I was angry about a lifetime of rejections, and I realized the deepest rejection was my own. I was denying myself from saying what I meant and doing what I truly desired.
I stopped trying to cure it with positive thinking or by taking the high road. It was about time I accepted myself, darker sides and all. So, instead of pushing these feelings down, I let them show me what to do next—I started making choices that actually resonated with my spirit.
"Seeing Red" is what led me to conceptualize the Chipo Kandake Revue. This painting was the spark that let me honor my desires as an artist and finally bring my vision to life.
